About the Author
Dan Fellner is a freelance travel writer and photographer who has visited more than 115 countries and all 50 states in the U.S. He has had more than 75 travel articles published in various magazines and newspapers; his work has been seen by millions of readers.
He also is a faculty associate at Arizona State University, where he has taught courses in journalism, public relations, international mass communications, intercultural communications and travel writing since 1998. Fellner is a faculty affiliate with ASU’s Melikian Center for Russian, Eurasian and East European Studies, and teaches courses in Eastern Europe, Asia and travel writing for ASU’s Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) for students 50 and older. In 2017 he was named to the Society of American Travel Writers.
Fellner has been a visiting professor at seven overseas universities as a six-time Fulbright fellow. He has received Fulbright Scholar grants to Latvia, Moldova and Bulgaria, and Fulbright Specialist grants to Lithuania, Latvia and Indonesia. Most recently, he taught at Ngurah Rai University in Bali, Indonesia, and guest-lectured at five other universities in the country during the 2017 spring semester.
In addition, Fellner has been selected four times to teach an intensive one-week course in communications at the Fulbright International Summer Institute (FISI) in Bulgaria. In August 2015 he was named for the third time to the speakers’ bureau (AZ Speaks) of the Arizona Humanities Council and gives presentations about Eastern Europe and Asia to audiences throughout Arizona.
Formerly, Fellner worked as a television news reporter and anchor in four U.S. cities and spent 10 years in corporate public relations at The Dow Chemical Company. When he isn’t traveling or teaching abroad, he resides in suburban Phoenix, Arizona.
